Ephesus and Pamukkale Aegean Region of Turkey

Turkey's international tourism industry is evolving. Although the number of native English speakers visiting Turkey decreases, the number of Europeans visiting Turkey is increasing. The importance of Ephesus as an ancient city from Roman times is the only thing that remains constant.

If you only have a small amount of time and can only visit one spot in Turkey other than Istanbul, I believe Cappadocia is the place to go. However, travelling to Cappadocia can be very expensive, particularly for those who apply for a last-minute turkey visa and want to book their trips at the last minute, due to the high flight rates of the few airline companies that fly to Kayseri.

But because Ephesus and Pamukkale are both in the Aegean region and comparatively close to the airport of Izmir, Turkey's third most significant and most populous city, and because it is a typical tourist destination as well as a famous city among Turks, there are hourly flights to Izmir every day and from a variety of airlines, resulting in more affordable flight rates, even if it is a last-minute booking.

The House of Virgin Mary and the historical site of Ephesus are just an hour's drive from Izmir airport. While Pamukkale is a little farther away (about a 3-hour bus ride from the airport), most visitors to the Ephesus region tend to spend at least a night or two in Selcuk or Kusadasi that they can visit Pamukkale the next day.

Pamukkale translates to "Cotton Castle." Cotton Castle is named for the hot pools that are surrounded by white stones. Most people who see photos of Pamukkale think the rocks are ice, but they are calcium stones.

The water in such pools is very safe, but swimming in Pamukkale pools is no longer allowed, except for one particular pool dedicated only for this reason, for which you must pay an additional fee.

Pamukkale's ancient portion, which is very cool, is another important thing to see. Hierapolis is the name of the city. Many visitors who come to Pamukkale solely to see the calcium stones claim that they did not know Hierapolis prior to their visit but that what they saw wowed them and that it was more impressive than the calcium stones.

Since Ephesus has such a long tradition, there are many things to say about it. With its ruins, Artemis Temple, Antic Theatre, and Virgin Mary's House, it is a must-see destination.

Turkey is always surprising every time you visit. To apply for a quick online turkey visa now and head to a world of natural wonders.
