Explore Kalkan in Turkey in 2023
Kalkan was a small fishing village with a safe
harbour on Turkey's southwest coast. The city was built into a well-liked
destination with luxurious hotels, yacht brokers, and villas for romantic
getaways, thanks to the tourism industry. So, why are you waiting to apply for
a turkey visa
online right away? The Independent named Kalkan as
one of the top tourist spots. In 2011, 96 per cent of the tourists were from
the United Kingdom, making up most of the visitors.
Where is Kalkan?
By the Mediterranean Sea, Kalkan is situated in the
southwest of Anatolia. The most beautiful road in the Republic of Turkey, D400,
also passes by where it is located. The travel time between Kalkan, Dalaman,
and Antalya airports is only three and two hours, respectively. Even though Kalkan
is a part of the province of Antalya, it is closer to the city of Fethiye.
Hence most visitors choose to fly into Dalaman airport to reach Kalkan. If you
want a pleasant vacation in Kalkan, we advise you to fly to Dalaman Airport.
What to do in Kalkan?
Turkey's Kalkan is one of the country's most
romantic vacation spots. Your romantic trip to Kalkan will include minor
details like white-painted houses, winding streets, and bougainvillaeas
spilling out from the small stone buildings. However, if you're looking for
more, two significant ancient cities, such as Patara and Tlos, are close by
Kalkan. Following a tour of one of these old cities, you can explore Kaputas
Beach and Patara Beach. Some beaches, like Firnaz bay, are difficult to reach
by car, but you may spend a pleasant day on the turquoise seas of Kalkan Bay by
renting a boat from the harbour. Divers of all types can dive in the bays
surrounding Kalkan. It would help if you visited Xantos Ancient City before or
after your holiday in Kalkan to learn more about this Lycian League member.
Xantos' significance in Lycian history led to her title as a Unesco World
Heritage Site in 1988. The city's history dates to the 7th century BCE, and
Xantos is home to stunning Lycian sarcophagi. The ancient city of Patara is
located nearer to Kalkan than Xantos. As the harbour of the Xantos Valley,
Patara served as the Lycian League's capital. The Hittites used the name Patara
to record the city's history, which dates back to the 13th century BCE. Before
the Roman Empire captured the area, the Lycian League met in Patara's
parliament building. Patara's port began to silt up with sand, and many of the
city's key structures are now buried beneath the seven-kilometre-long sandy
beach's golden sand. As a result, Patara lost some of its prominences. The
other significant ancient city to visit while in Kalkan is Tlos. It is close to
Saklikent Gorge, a well-known tourist destination. The town shares Patara's
heritage, but this incarnation is a large settlement on Patara's Mediterranean
hinterland. Given the spectacular findings from Tlos and the ancient ruins made
of rock carvings, the Hittites regard Tlos as a state, a well-deserved
designation.
