Ulubey Canyon Nature Park

The Ulubey and Banaz streams, tributaries of the historical Menderes River known as the Buyuk Menderes River, have carved out a vast valley seen from Ulubey Canyon. After the Grand Canyon of the United States of America, the Ulubey Canyon is the second-longest canyon in the world. Due to the unique environment maintained by the Ulubey Canyon's microclimate, a variety of flora and animals can be found in the canyon. The Usak regional ecotourism hub is still being developed through new projects by the Culture and Tourism Ministry near Ulubey Canyon.

Where is Ulubey Canyon?

Turkey's Usak province is where you may find the Ulubey Canyon. The well-known glass terrace of Ulubey Canyon is roughly fifty kilometres south of Usak. Near the point where the Ulubey stream and the Meander River meet is the Adiguzel reservoir. The Ulubey Canyon and Blaundus Ancient City are just 15 kilometres apart, making them ideal for a half-day trip to Usak City. Along with the Museum of Archaeology, Usak city offers other preserved and recently found attractions that steadily but gradually earn national attention. Locations of Cilandiras Bridge, Durakli's rock-cut tombs, and Pepuza Ancient City are all in the Ulubey district of Usak Province.

Some numbers Ulubey Canyon

Ulubey Canyon varies in width from 100 to 500 metres. The canyon ranges in depth from 135 to 170 metres. The canyon is the second-longest canyon in the world, measuring 45 kilometres. As the karstic surface of the highlands is constantly eroded by rain from the Aegean Sea's moisture following the Meander River basin, many canyons are connected to Ulubey Canyon. The province of Usak is situated at the top of the Aegean, where the climate is milder than in central Anatolia. The primary sources of water degrading the Ulubey Canyon are caused by increased rainfall brought on by the province's elevation during the autumn and winter.

Ecotourism in Ulubey Canyon

The Republic of Turkey's Ministry of Forest & Water Management designated Ulubey Canyon a national park in 2013. The glass terrace project of Ulubey Canyon was supported in 2015 by the Usak Culture & Tourism Provincial Directorate, Ulubey District Governorship, Provincial Administration of Usak & Zafer Development Agency. Thanks to the ecotourism development managed by the local government, which drew 40.000 visitors to the Natural Park in June 2015 alone, hiking, trekking, and camping were promoted in the area. In March 2016, there were 100,000 visitors, which is still rising today. During a brief trek in Ulubey Canyon, visitors can easily view the varied flora and animals.
