Visit Alanya Castle in Alanya Once in Lifetime
Like numerous previous instances, a group of pirates
in Roman times sought refuge on the sheer cliffs of Alanya. At the last of the
first century BCE, the Roman Navy launched an operation against the Anatolian
pirates in the East Mediterranean. Alanya, which the pirate Thros had built in
the second century BCE, was taken over by the Roman Navy in 64 BCE. The Romans
changed Korakesium to Kolonoros, which means the lovely mountain. Until the
Seljuk Sultan Alaeddin Keykubad's Turkish occupation of Kolonoros in 1221, the
town was still a little village. They constructed the castle's shipyard, Red
Tower, the majority of the cisterns, and the city walls in the 13th century.
After capturing the area, the Seljuk Turks gave the name Alaiye, which is where
Alanya gets its name.

Where is the castle of Alanya?
The Castle of Alanya can be reached in three
different ways. The cable car is the perfect substitute because it may save you
time and keep you safe from Alanya's traffic. The Alanya castle is easily
reached by car, but during the busy season, parking can be challenging. Another
option is to climb the castle from the base, close to the Red Tower and the old
shipyard. The castle is built on cliffs 250 meters above sea level; the walk
will take about 2 hours.
How to explore the Castle of Alanya?
Three categories can be used to categorize Alanya
Castle's attractions. The inner castle on top, the Red Tower and Shipyard
beside the water, and the castle's lower part behind the mountain's peak. The
back of the inner castle, still inhabited by Alanya natives, is reachable by
cable car from the coast. The inner castle top can be reached by taking a
pleasant stroll through the neighbourhood's winding cobblestone streets. A
Seljukian palace's ruins, a Byzantine church, and cisterns are among the
interior highlights of the inner castle, a small museum. The magnificent views
you obtain from the top of the inner castle will be the trip's high point. The
exact path can be taken to return to the cable car and reach the coast. To see
the Red Tower and shipyards, you must take a car around to the opposite side of
the castle. There is also the option of walking down from the castle, but
please note that it will take 45 minutes and be 3 kilometres downhill. There
are dining options at the top, on the way down, and by the Alanya port.
Red Tower is located by the water next to the Seljuk
Shipyard, which was constructed in the 13th century. Ebu Ali Reha el Kettani,
an Aleppo-born architect, constructed the Red Tower in 1226. The tower has five
stories, the last two being built from red clay bricks, earning it the
well-deserved moniker Red Tower. The Ottomans used a similar strategy in
Greece's White Tower of Thessaloniki. The Red Tower's first and second floors
are utilized as an ethnographic museum. The staircase leads to a vantage point
with lovely port views and the historic shipyard. You may reach the shipyards
from the Red Tower by travelling along the city walls. The Seljuks constructed
the 56 meters wide by 44 meters long shipyard in 1227. Under the shipyard's
five arches, ships were built.
Not to miss…
Turkey's Republic's Mediterranean Coast is like a
giant fruit industry. In addition to citrus, bold investors now grow exotic
fruits in the region. We strongly advise going to a neighbourhood market to
purchase fresh local produce. Additionally, Alarahan, a beautifully preserved
Turkish caravanserai, is a worthwhile stop to make inching closer to Alanya. If
you're travelling in the heat, a trip to Sapadere Canyon will be a welcome way
to cool off. It is a beautiful gorge with cool freshwater pouring on the
underlying rock, creating several swimming ponds.
