Green Tomb Bursa – All You Need to Know

Within the Mehmet, Celebi complex is the Green Tomb of Bursa. Locally, it is stated as the "green complex," which is the Turkish name for Yesil Kulliye. The Green Mosque, Green Tomb, a madrasah, a bath, and a soup kitchen make up Bursa's Green Complex. One of the three Ottoman-built complexes in Bursa city. The complex's crowning achievement is the Green Tomb. In 1421, the Green Tomb's construction was completed. Mehmet the First died 40 days after the project was completed. He is buried alongside his family in the Green Tomb. The tomb's centre includes his grave. The Sultan's sons' tombs are those of Mustafa, Mahmut, and Yusuf. His daughters are Sitti, Selcuk, Ayse, and Hafsa. Along with the children of Mehmet I, Nana Daya is buried in the beautiful tomb. Under the magnificent dome of the Green Tomb of Sultan Mehmet the First, nine people are lying.

Mehmet Celebi is another name for the first Ottoman Sultan Mehmet. In Ottoman Turkish, Celebi means noble-born, while in Roman, it means the lord's son. In 1402, Tamerlane captured his father, Bayezid I, also known as Bayezid the Thunderbolt. Four of his sons ran away from the battle and began the Ottoman Civil War, also known as the Ottoman Interim period. He defeated his three brothers and ruled Anatolia and Thrace for eight years before dying in 1421. He could only see his tomb as the Green Mosque's construction came to a close.

The shape of the Green Tomb is hexagonal. Underneath the tile-adorned chest in the hallway lies a burial chamber. Beautiful Iznik tiles are used to decorate the tomb. The Green Tomb is the handiwork of Haci Ivaz Pasha. The width of the hexagonal tomb ranges from 7 to 11 metres. The dome is 25 metres tall overall from the outside. The tomb's facades are decorated with exquisite Iznik tiles. Some tiles are 3 metres high on the inside, covering the walls.
